Three NFB animated short films in competition at Annecy

(Montreal) The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) announced Monday that four short films that it produced or co-produced will be presented at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival, including three in official competition.

The famous NFB Alexeïeff-Parker pinscreen this time serves as a canvas for animation filmmaker Michèle Lemieux for her film Tablewhich “revisits the tragic destiny of Queen Marie-Anne of Austria, immortalized in 1652 by the painter Velazquez”.

The NFB has one of only two “Alexeïeff-Parker pinscreens” in operation today in the world and Michèle Lemieux is one of the rare heirs of this animation technique adopted at the Office by Jacques Drouin in the 1970s. Michèle Lemieux had produced with this extremely laborious technique The big one Elsewhere and the small one here in 2012.
