While the Star Wars franchise has committed to multiple series, Lucasfilms isn’t planning on stopping there when it comes to movies. Three new opuses from the world of Star wars will be released in cinemas from 2025.

“Star Wars: Episode X” will be released on December 19, 2025.

The next film in the franchise will be the sequel to The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the latest released. Directed by Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Miss Marvel) and written with Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, it already has Daisy Ridley (Rey) in the cast. The story will take place fifteen years after theEpisode IX. While at the end of this last episode, Rey takes the name of “Skywalker”, the heroine will try to set up a New Jedi order by following the precepts of Luke and Leïa. A story that we can discover from December 19, 2025 at the cinema according to our colleagues from First.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will thus be the first woman to direct a film in the franchise since it was created by George Lucas in 1977. It is Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman 1984, who should have been, but his film Rogue Squadron, announced in 2020 for 2023 by Disney, seems to have been abandoned.

‘Star Wars: Origins of the Force’ is slated for release in 2027 or 2028

James Mangold, director ofIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which will be released this year, will work on a prequel with a time leap previously unseen in the saga. The story takes place 25,000 years in the past to look back at the first Jedi to use the Force. The opus, which we should see in 2027 or 2028, already promises to be a “biblical epic”.

A film by Dave Filoni, no release date

A third film, without title assigned for the moment, will be directed by Dave Filoni, who has already been at the helm of several Star Wars series for Disney +: The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka… No release date is announced at this time. According to BFMTV, this opus will take place during the New Republic, that is to say the period after the events of Return of the Jedi, after the destruction of the second Death Star, and the disappearance of Emperor Palpatine .
