Three men in their forties died on the afternoon of Friday, October 28, mowed down by a heavy truck on the hard shoulder of the A23 motorway, indicates France Bleu Nord. The accident occurred near the town of Hasnon, between Lille and Valenciennes, while the three men were changing a tire on their van.

Traffic had to be temporarily cut in the direction of Valenciennes, one of the busiest axes in the region, according to France Bleu Nord. A Samu helicopter was dispatched to the scene and had to land on the asphalt to take care of the victims. One of the three men was already dead, the other two were in cardio-respiratory arrest when help arrived.

An investigation is opened by the motorway CRS to understand the circumstances of the accident. A recent study by motorway companies estimates the life expectancy of a pedestrian on the motorway at 15 to 20 minutes.
