three departments are still on orange alert due to snow and ice

Météo France published Saturday, April 2, in the afternoon, a new map of meteorological vigilance. Now, there are only three departments in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region placed on orange alert due to snow and ice, compared to 19 on Saturday morning. It is Loire, Haute-Loire and Puy-de-Dôme. Ain, Allier, Ariège, Aveyron, Cantal, Corrèze, Creuse, Corse-du-sud, Haute-Corse, Haute-Garonne, Isère, Pyrénées-Atlantiques , Hautes-Pyrénées, Savoie, Tarn and Haute-Vienne are no longer concerned.

On the Massif Central, “the snowfall continues to weaken, but remains a little more marked on the Auvergne side, on the departments maintained in orange vigilance where we still expect 5 to 10 cm above 800 m, locally 10 to 15 cm, and 2 to 5 cm above 400 m”explains Météo France in its bulletin. “During the night from Saturday to Sunday, with negative temperatures at all altitudes, refreezing phenomena may occur and add to traffic difficulties, particularly in Auvergne.”

In the Alps, at the end of the afternoon and in the evening, “The downward trend in snow intensities is becoming widespread. Snowfall nevertheless remains present for longer in the Vercors and the Chartreuse, with persistent traffic difficulties linked to the formation of snowdrifts, but also because of the probable refreezing on the pavements”. Finally, in Corsica, the snow showers “weaken during the afternoon. The rain-snow limit is generally around 500 to 600 m and will then rise to around 800 to 900 m at the end of the afternoon”.
