Sunday, May 21 in the early morning, three men were killed in a shootout east of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). For the authorities, everything suggests that it would be a new settling of scores.

The burst of Kalashnikovs on a car left no chance for its occupants. Three men, aged around twenty, died under the bullets, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). Two other individuals who accompanied them were next to the vehicle and were able to flee a little after 5 a.m. on Sunday May 21. “We were going out for a party and they got a blast here”, said a young woman who knew the victims well. The men targeted had just left a nightclub in the east of the city. Maybe they were followed. They stopped a hundred meters further, at the entrance to a residential area, before being shot.

A new settlement of accounts?

According to the mayor of the sector, the victims are from the north of Marseille. “The problem is that we are exporting scores, if confirmed. Of course, this worries the population”explains Sylvain Souvestre, mayor of the 12th arrondissement of Marseille. “The whole motus operandi of today suggests that this is a settling of accounts under the guise of drug trafficking”, says Eddy Sid, SGP Police FO unit delegate in Marseille. Since the beginning of the year, 21 violent deaths have been recorded in Marseille.
