Public Health reports three cases of legionellosis in the Montreal sectors of Anjou and Mercier-Ouest between July 29 and August 8. One of those with the disease, a man, died from complications.
The Regional Public Health Department (DRSP) of the metropolis also emphasizes that “there is no need to worry for the population of eastern Montreal”.
However, we must “remain vigilant”, she wrote in a press release, to “the appearance of symptoms which are similar to those of pneumonia or even of COVID-19, such as high fever, chills, cough , fatigue, muscle aches or loss of appetite”.
The Montreal DRSP is currently conducting an investigation to determine whether these three cases come from the same source of exposure — a water cooling tower in the area, for example. “The territory within which the three cases occurred is limited to the area east of Highway 25, south of 40, west of Avenue George V and north of the river” , the statement said.
Cases of legionellosis are reported each year to Montreal Public Health. We counted 52 last year. As of Wednesday, 27 statements had been submitted.
