Canada has three representatives among those vying for FIFA honors.
They are Captain Christine Sinclair, goaltender Stephanie Labbé and coach Bev Priestman.
There are 13 players who aspire to be named Player of the Year, including Sinclair, who led her country to Olympic gold in Tokyo.
Labbé and four rivals are in the running for Guardian of the Year.
At the coaching level, there are also five selected, including Priestman, in her first full year at the helm of the Maple Leaf.
“That kind of recognition is only possible with a whole team behind you,” Priestman wrote on Twitter.
“It really represents the effort of an entire team,” added Sinclair, on the same platform.
As Player of the Year, the list includes Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Robert Lewandowski.
The winners will be announced in a virtual ceremony on January 17th.
The jury is made up of national team coaches and captains from all over the world. The vote of specialist columnists and supporters also enters the equation.
Sinclair, also captain of the Portland Thorns, can also win the France Football Ballon d’Or, just like his compatriots Ashley Lawrence (Paris Saint-Germain) and Jessie Fleming (Chelsea).
