“Three Bells”, Ty Segall | The duty

Placing the epithet “cult” next to the word “artist” still seems premature to us regarding Ty Segall. Let’s wait another five or six albums after this fifteenth of his career (excluding parallel projects) before using it to qualify the energetic American psyche-garage rock, which here offers a full-length album contrasting with the brief folk escape of Hello, Hi (2022). He plays all the instruments, supported by his wife, Denée (they together form the group The CIA), to whom he dedicates a nice groove at the end of the album, embellished by the electric piano. The essentials of Three Bellshowever, slips into the prog side of rock, it jumps to the ears from The Bell And Void, who open the album, with their flashes of Gentle Giant or Black Sabbath. We will marvel at the variety of rock flavors and guitar tones deployed here, from the angular rock chorus of Hi Dee Dee “Beatlesque” style My Best Friendthrough rock delirium Eggman And Watcher. All this fades a bit over time, but Three Bells remains a very good vintage.
