Claude Delaney, a man so far uneventful, has pleaded not guilty to the two counts filed against him last week. The 62-year-old Sorelois was arrested shortly after the MP for Saint-Laurent was the target of messages that amounted to death threats. He was released with a promise to appear and an undertaking not to come into contact with Mr.me Rizqy.

According to the member, Mr. Delaney had presented himself to her in mid-August, during the convention of young liberals, and offered her his services. “He said to me: ‘I am one of your big fans, I would like to get involved in your campaign. I am ready to be there 24 hours a day for you, I want to be your driver to accompany you wherever you go, at all times,” said Mr.me Rizqy during an interview with The Press.

“I found him a bit pushy. He was like, ‘You don’t know how lucky your husband is to have you’. The MP politely agreed to take his phone number, but his team never called him back.

She made the connection by seeing a photo of the accused. “Apparently he was obsessed with me,” Ms.me Rizqy.

Mr. Delaney did not call back The Press. In 2021, he very briefly volunteered in the election campaign of a municipal councilor from Sorel-Tracy, Jocelyn Mondou. The latter describes Claude Delaney as a very helpful man, without stories. “Lately, he didn’t seem to be in his right mind. We often talked about the news. He seemed more aggressive to me, whereas he is usually a very calm person,” says Mr. Moundou.

According to Marwah Rizqy, the accused would have, shortly after his meeting with her, made threatening anonymous calls, in particular to the neighborhood police station of Mme Rizqy, to say that he had found her body on the street where she lives. “Afterwards, he called the office [du député libéral Enrico] Ciccone to say on the voicemail: “Your great boyfriend Marwah is dead and buried in such a place”. »

The date of Claude Delaney’s trial is not known at this time. The file was initially investigated by the Montreal Police Service, but it was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec since it concerns an elected official.
