A secondary school in Châteauguay is closed for the day, Monday, due to a threat on social networks targeting staff members.
The principal of the Louis-Philippe-Paré school, Stéphane Brault, sent an email to the parents of the students at the end of the evening on Sunday to inform them of the situation.
“We know this will require a reorganization of your family planning on Monday, but in this context we prefer to ensure the safety of students and members of our staff,” writes Mr. Brault.
The email states that the Chateauguay Police Department has been informed of the situation, is taking it seriously and is investigating it.
“These are threats that have been made on social media targeting staff members. So it was suggested to close the school for the day while the investigators do their investigation, ”confirmed Chateauguay police spokesperson Martine Denis.
Ms. Denis said the messages targeted two school staff, but could not give more details.
Cybercrime investigators will try to determine where the messages came from, she added.
“We also do not know where the threats come from, whether they are young people from school or from outside, for the moment. “
