The Israeli army asks the population of eastern Rafah to evacuate the area on Monday May 6. They must reach tent camps further west.

Since the morning of Monday, May 6, residents of certain neighborhoods of Rafah (Gaza) have received leaflets written in Arabic. They also received text messages and phone calls. “Yes, we received these leaflets, but I swear, we don’t know where to go”, explains one of them. Families fold their tents in peace. The evacuations concern 100,000 people. This is a small part of the city, the closest to Israel, according to a map provided by the IDF.

16 Palestinians killed in the night

The displaced people can’t take it anymore. “Where do you want me to go? I have no more money, nothing, I’m tired”, deplores a resident, sobs in her voice. The Israeli army is telling the population to go to tent camps set up in recent weeks further west. Do these evacuations herald Israel’s major planned operation? We don’t know yet. During the night from Sunday to Monday, 16 Palestinians died, Hamas announced. Four Israeli soldiers were killed by rockets launched from Rafah.
