Visitors from all over the world joined residents of Buñol (Spain) and the surrounding area to take part in La Tomatina.
During this festival, held on the last Wednesday of August, 20,000 participants throw huge quantities of tomatoes at each other.
It is estimated that 145 tons of tomatoes are made available to thousands of people during the giant battle which lasts exactly one hour.
The event is inspired by a tomato fight between children that occurred in 1945.
The Buñol region, east of Valencia, is known for its abundant tomato production.
