As the conflict between Israel and Hamas worsens, thousands of Lebanese civilians have been forced to leave the south of the country since October 7.
Since October 7, more than 9,000 people have left their villages on the Israeli border to take refuge in Tyre, the second largest city in southern Lebanon. This is a major challenge for local authorities who are facing an incessant flow of displaced people. With winter approaching, the priority is to provide people with mattresses and blankets. Every day, 400 to 500 new displaced people arrive in Tyre. Places are counted. Some even try to return home, but end up giving up in the face of danger.
Nearly 29,000 people living on the border with Israel have fled their region
Three schools in the city have been transformed into accommodation centers to house the poorest families. In the classrooms there are piles of mattresses where people sleep on the floor. For the displaced, it is particularly difficult to adapt to these new living conditions. The 2006 war is still on everyone’s minds. In recent weeks, nearly 29,000 people living on the border with Israel have fled their region.
