Thousands of climate protesters in Montreal

Thousands of people marched on Saturday for the climate. A coalition of 170 organizations, at the origin of the event, calls for an “exit from fossil fuels” and a “massive reinvestment in the social safety net”.

In Montreal, some 7,000 people were present, according to the organizers. The procession left around 1:45 p.m. from the monument to George-Étienne Cartier. It then marched to the rhythm of a brass band on Parc Avenue, before turning onto Laurier Avenue and then Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

“And 1, and 2, and 3 degrees. It is a crime against humanity,” chanted the demonstrators, among other slogans.

Demonstrations were also organized in Quebec, Joliette, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi, Rouyn-Noranda, Rimouski and Baie-Comeau.
