Marriage for all has been the subject of many mea culpa in the political class in recent years. On April 23, 2013, a divided Assembly definitively adopted the bill opening up marriage to people of the same sex. In the streets, anger is heard and many right-wing politicians are leading the procession. Ten years later, several of them are backtracking on the subject, such as the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who, in 2013, assured that he would refuse to marry homosexual couples: “I was wrong, I obviously admit it”. Another member of the government from the right, Christophe Béchu, also regrets.

Éric Zemmour maintains his position

At the time, the vast majority of the right was against marriage for all. Jean-François Copé was then president of the UMP. “It is certainly one of the main regrets of my political life”, he explains. Valérie Pécresse and Christian Estrosi also returned to their positions. Some, like Vincent Autin, the first homosexual married man in France, see it as political opportunism. Others say they do not regret their positions of 10 years ago, like Éric Zemmour or François-Xavier Bellamy. But if they were in power, neither man would go back on marriage for all.
