SV Thörl-Maglern Table Tennis Teams Shine with Early Victories
Both table tennis teams from SV Thörl-Maglern have made a remarkable leap in their respective divisions this season, marking a significant milestone with their first wins. The recent Carinthian table tennis championship has been exhilarating for the players of both men’s teams.
Thörl-Maglern 1: Rising to the Challenge
The first team, which includes talented players Pepe Werginz, Stefano De Inca, Harald Wucherer, and Norbert Moschet, demonstrated an exceptional performance right from the outset. With eight wins and three draws, Thörl I secured promotion to the 1st class, allowing them to dream of greater achievements in the current season. However, the journey has not been without its challenges. They faced a tough start against the reigning champions, Mossburg 1, suffering a heavy 0:10 defeat. “That was a bit sobering. After that, we knew it could only get better and we would get our chances,” reflected section leader deputy Harald Wucherer.
Fortunately, the team rebounded spectacularly, finding their winning streak on the sixth match day against St. Urban, where Josef Werging, Stefano De Inca, and Harald Wucherer showcased their skills. They also celebrated a victory in their recent home game against Berg 2, finishing with a score of 6:4. “Achieving sixth place with six championship points is quite satisfactory. We are now much closer to our season goal of maintaining our league status,” Wucherer added. Looking ahead, the Carinthian Table Tennis Association has scheduled their next home match against St. Urban 7 on Thursday, December 19, followed by a clash with Landskron 7 at 7 PM in Volkshaus Landskron.
Thörl-Maglern 2: A Sensational Promotion
The second team’s promotion to the 2nd class has been celebrated as a sensational achievement at the Thörl-Maglern tennis club, creating a wave of excitement and joy. The success came sooner than anticipated in the 2023/24 playing season, fueled by the hard work and determination of veteran players Michi Mörtl, Stefan Koch, Adrian Schmucker, and the young talent Svea Wucherer, who is just 14 years old. “Now we need to show patience and gain experience. In the 2nd class, the competition is considerably tougher, and the game speed has increased,” stated Wucherer.
The team has already made a strong impression with their season opener victory over Völkendorf 1, winning 7:3. Several more surprises could be on the horizon as they prepare for their next match. The extended player group, including Alexander Kastiunig, Jürgen Klaus, Giudo Tarmann, Stefan Koch, Adrian Schmucker, and Richard Hacksteiner, aims to build on their success during their upcoming home game on Wednesday, November 27, at 7 PM in the Thörl-Maglern fire station against DSG Velden 9. “Having numerous fans cheering us on would definitely make things easier,” expressed team captain Giudo Tarmann.
