It will be appreciated by the sprinters. After two mountain stages in the Pyrenees and before tackling the Alps, the peloton begins the third week of racing with a flat stage, Tuesday July 16 between Gruissan (Aude) and Nîmes (Gard). After a fairly rolling first part of the race and an intermediate sprint set at the 96th kilometer, the riders will set off on the Fambetou hill (1.2 km at 5%), the only fourth category difficulty of the stage, before reaching the finish in Nîmes.
The final route promised to the sprinters on this 2024 Tour de France, this stage will be of capital importance for the contenders for the green jersey, even if Biniam Girmay has widened the gap with Jasper Philipsen in the points classification. Unavoidable on this Tour de France with already three stage victories, the Eritrean will have the opportunity to become the sixth sprinter of the 21st century to win at least four stages on the same edition of the Tour de France. Still empty-handed on the Grande Boucle this year, the Belgian Arnaud De Lie, the German Pascal Ackermann, and the Frenchman Bryan Coquard will also try to win.
