This Sunday, February 6, 2022, the final of the African Cup of Nations was held in Yaoundé (Cameroon). After nearly a month of competition, it was Egypt and Senegal who faced each other to try to win the title of African football champion. The two countries having never won this cup before, it was a more than tight match that took place before the eyes of millions of television viewers around the world.
And it was ultimately the penalty shootout that led to Senegal’s victory. The Senegalese player Mendy having stopped the fourth shot of an Egyptian player, his teammate Sadio Mané managed to score a goal in the following seconds, giving victory to the Lions of Terranga who had been fighting since 1965 to clinch it and who were already found twice in the final of the African Cup of Nations.

For his part, Omar Sy, who is from this beautiful West African country, expressed his immense joy on Twitter. “So much emotion !!! So proud and happy” he launched in the caption of a photo of him all smiles , wearing the Senegal jersey.
What generate criticism from some Internet users who have seen his message. “In good times you’re there but when our compatriots died in the demonstrations it was radio silence huh…. In short we forget everything, congratulations to us” writes one of them. “Ah Mauritanian in defeat and Senegalese in victory, it’s beautiful Omar” emphasizes another, thus making references to the alleged Mauritanian origins of the 45-year-old actor. “Stop you’re French it’s embarrassing” chants yet another internet user.
Fortunately, Omar Sy received the support of hundreds of other people who were quick to support him and congratulate Senegal on this victory.
