A case that has caused a lot of ink to flow. On December 5, YouTuber Norman Thavaud was taken into police custody by the minors protection brigade as part of a preliminary investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office for rape and corruption of minors. Six women filed a complaint against the videographer. Five, who were minors at the time, accuse the 35-year-old comedian of rape. At the moment, no legal action is taken at this stage against the French pioneer of the platform. Indeed, after being taken into custody for rape and corruption of minors, the one who totals 2.7 billion views on YouTube was released the next day without prosecution at this stage.
But the repercussions of these alleged actions continue for Norman. This weekend, YouTube made the decision to demonetize the videos produced by the man who has been the father of a girl named Bianca since 2019, thus depriving him of advertising revenue. “We consider sexual harassment, in any form, to be unacceptable. If inappropriate content is reported on YouTube, we remove the video and/or comments. In accordance with our policies, we may also terminate affected accounts“, commented to BFM a spokesperson for YouTube.
“For behavior outside of our platform, we strongly advise victims to come forward to the appropriate law enforcement or legal authorities. If we find that a creator’s behavior, on or off YouTube, is harming our users, our community, our employees or our ecosystem, we then take additional measures to protect them”, adds the platform in a press release.
