“This story aims to destroy me”, declares the mayor of Saint-Etienne Gaël Perdriau during a municipal council

“It is not because one is accused that one is guilty.” The mayor of Saint-Etienne, Gaël Perdriau, spoke Monday, September 26 during a City Council, about the case of blackmail to the intimate video for which he had been placed in police custody Tuesday, September 13 . “This story aims to destroy me. (…) The political and media lynching that I am subjected to is only mastered by the interests of revenge”, declared the elected member of the Les Républicains party, also targeted by suspicions of favoritism.

This municipal council is the first to be held since the revelation of the affair by the newspaper Médiapart, on August 26. At the request of the opposition, thee mayor added to the agenda an item on this asextape blackmail case against his former first deputy Gilles Artigues. “Under no circumstances may the municipal council turn into a court”, he wanted to clarify. During this stormy council, the session was suspended several times.

A week after the holding of a demonstration of a hundred municipal agents in Saint-Etienne on September 15 to demand the resignation of the mayor, Gaël Perdriau announced to withdraw from his mandates to the city and the metropolis, without resigning from it.
