For the past few days, images of a military helicopter crash in Mali have been circulating on social networks. The accounts that share them falsely claim that the device is Russian.
While France has ended its presence on Malian territory and Russia is intensifying its cooperation with Mali, fake news related to the rapprochement between Moscow and Bamako is going well. Since the end of August, the video of a military helicopter crash has been falsely captioned. If the device crashed in Mali, it is not Russian and the crash occurred in 2019.
Similarly, images of the delivery of armored vehicles by the United Arab Emirates to Mali operated in 2020 have been decontextualized. They resurfaced a few days after the telephone conversation between the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin and the president of the Malian transition Assimi Goïta.
