“This Médiapart video confirms that these police officers have been lying from the start,” reacts the victim’s lawyer

Images published by the Mediapart site show LBD shooting the young man, who had to have part of his skull amputated at the beginning of July. They question the version of the police in this case.

The Hedi affair caused a lot of emotion this summer. The young man was targeted by an LBD shot in Marseille, on the sidelines of the riots after the death of Nahel, on the night of July 1 to 2. He had to have part of his skull amputated. Mediapart published videos on Monday, October 2 showing the facts and denying the police version.

>> Riots after the death of Nahel: nearly 3,700 people placed in police custody, a third of whom are minors

These are video surveillance images, edited and analyzed by the investigation site, shot at night and sometimes blurry. We first see two silhouettes wandering around, identified by Mediapart like Hedi, identifiable by his lit cigarette, and his friend. At the corner of a street, they come across six plainclothes BAC police officers.

The two friends start running. Their lawyer explains on franceinfo that they were scared because of a baton blow from the police. We cannot see the blow in the images but we can clearly see the police officers pounce on the two young men. Another agent, located on the sidewalk opposite, then shot Hedi in the back, who fell to the ground.

“It’s a case that should have been a case of police error, it’s becoming a case of police lying.”

Jacques-Antoine Preziosi, Hedi’s lawyer

The police say it was a self-defense shot, but this video “allows us to confirm that these police officers have been lying from the start”, assures Me Jacques-Antoine Preziosi, Hedi’s lawyer. He also explains that “this video is of much better quality than what the registry communicated to us” because the images were entrusted to a scientific laboratory to improve them and make a synthesis of “four videos”.

Four police officers are indicted in this case. The official suspected of the LBD shooting was released on September 1, after a period of pre-trial detention. He is currently under judicial supervision. “He says he shot in self-defense for his comrades, that’s nonsense”insists Jacques Preziosi who assures that the young man has “left arm slightly atrophied”.

>> Demonstrations against police violence: Darmanin supports the police

The lawyer finally reacted to the comments of the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, who did not wish to comment on the images published by Mediapart, but who recalled the “presumption of innocence of everyone” and his “support for the national police” : “He does not serve the police in general, he is in his role as candidate for the presidency of the Republic”tackles Hedi’s lawyer.
