France is in 6th place on the medal table on Saturday morning, with 56 medals, including 14 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze. It is behind the United States, China, Australia, Japan and Great Britain. “A fantastic result for French sport”
Amélie Oudéa-Castéra’s objective remains the one set before the competition: that France be “in the top 5” of the medal table. However, she notes a “small point of vigilance” compared to the record of 15 gold medals for France at the 1996 Atlanta Games: “We had a level of gold medals compared to our total medals which was excellent.” For these Paris Games, “it converts a little less on gold”notes the minister.
“With the four finals [en sports collectifs]virtually, we are already at 60 medals, which is exceptional, it is 17 medals more than our absolute record which was that of Beijing” in 2008, continues the minister, who notes a progression of 40% “absolutely wonderful”.
The French women’s basketball and handball teams, as well as the French men’s basketball and volleyball teams, are sure to win a medal since they have qualified for the Olympic finals. The minister also mentions the hopes of medals in modern pentathlon and athletics, with French players in six finals taking place on Saturday evening.
Marathon for all: “Everything will be fine”

“We are taking all the preventive, support and hydration measures”, “everything will be done according to the rules of the art”assures the minister. “There is a lot of experience in managing this type of competition and I am sure that everything will go well”she continues.
