According to an Ipsos estimate for France Télévisions and Radio France in particular, abstention for the European elections in France should rise to 48% on Sunday, i.e. 1.9 points less than in 2019 and 9.6 points less than in 2014.

“This is the election that most mobilizes the French after the presidential election”, says Mathieu Gallard, research director at Ipsos, Sunday June 9, while the French vote for the European elections. Ipsos estimates, at 5 p.m., the final participation at 52%, i.e. “the highest participation” in this election “since 1994”.

Mathieu Gallard explains having seen, “during the last days of the campaign”, “an increase in participation”. “We estimated it at around 43%, it rose to 47%, 48%”, he continues. The mobilization is therefore announced “stronger than expected”.

“It is interesting to note, moreover, that we find the same trend in most European countries”, adds the research director at Ipsos. According to him, “There might be some interesting things happening at 8 p.m.”.
