Monday September 25, Emmanuel Macron will present an ecological planning plan. An “excellent” idea according to Jean Jouzel, former vice-president of the IPCC, guest of franceinfo 12/13. “There are ambitious objectives for 2030 and I must admit that I am unable to tell you whether the measures that are being implemented will take us towards these objectives”, he tempers, however. According to him, the measures presented risk not “not be enough”.
“It takes buy-in”
Among the measures mentioned, closing coal-fired power plants is an excellent idea, according to Jean Jouzel. “These are good measures since mobility, buildings, town planning already represent almost half of our emissions. It is important to put effort into this part”, he emphasizes. However, he regrets a lack of support for these measures on the part of the population: “We need support and it is the role of politics to bring it about”.
