Two months before the European elections on June 9, Engie measured with the Jean Jaurés foundation during a vast study the relationship that Europeans have with the energy transition. A total of 10,000 people were surveyed in nine EU countries as well as the United Kingdom. The main lesson is that many Europeans do not believe in the carbon neutrality objective that the Commission and the States have set for themselves. “Nine out of 10 citizens support the ecological transition”tempers Cathérine MacGrégor, general director of Engie,“They want it, they do it and would even like it to go faster. Then they also see the challenges. There is a little concern to know if these objectives are not too ambitious”.

Show pragmatism

Some 45% of those surveyed called for this ecological transition to be carried out cautiously. “Prudently, in my business language, I translate it as pragmatism, continues Cathérine MacGrégor. This fear of purchasing power must be understood because it is real. We must put cost as an essential success factor for this energy transition.” If in the minds of those surveyed the transition involves the deployment of renewable energies. Solar power comes first at 45%, ahead of wind and hydraulic power. Among the cleanest energies, only 8% of respondents cite nuclear power.
