French abroad: this cook has rebuilt his life in Sri Lanka
(France 2)
The 13 Hours takes you to Sri Lanka, one of the treasures of the Indian Ocean. This is the new life that Robin and David, two people from Bordeaux who left everything to settle in a fishing village, have chosen.
Lulled by the constant sound of the waves under the sun, Robin Maillard’s daily life is enough to make people envious. It is in the middle of the rice fields and coconut trees of southern Sri Lanka that this 35-year-old Frenchman started his life again four years ago. The Bordeaux resident came to seek the sun. He is now a cook in a French restaurant. With his Sri Lankan colleagues, he prepares local products every day.
Quit everything on a whim
Robin knew nothing about the country before moving there. It was the taste for challenge that pushed him to leave everything: his job, his apartment and his loved ones. Everything was done in less than a month. He does not regret: “The view from my office is really beautiful”, he smiles. He owes this view to another Bordeaux resident, David Ducroc. It was his idea to open a beachfront establishment.
