In January 2013, Gérard Depardieu obtained Russian nationality after requesting it in a letter in which the French actor declared that he loved Russian President Vladimir Putin and “adored Russia, its men, its history, its writers”. During a stay in Sochi that month, it was the Russian president himself who gave him his passport and made him a representative of Russia throughout the world.
Since that date, the 73-year-old comedian has indeed been a “true hero” in the country. “The popularity of Gérard Depardieu there is real and immense,” explained Joël Chapron, general coordinator of the French cinema festival today in Russia. Faced with the current situation and the war between Ukraine and Russia, Gérard Depardieu was thus forced to speak. “Russia and Ukraine have always been brotherly countries. I am against this fratricidal war. I say: ‘Stop the guns and negotiate!'” he chanted in an interview for AFP, this Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
Gérard Depardieu: this compromising photo that resurfaces on Twitter
If the French actor calls for peace, now a photo of him, quite embarrassing, has just resurfaced on social networks and more precisely on Twitter. A snapshot relayed by the political journalist Jean-Michel Aphatie, where Gérard Depardieu poses alongside Ramzan Kadyrov, the President of the Republic of Chechnya.
Yesterday, Gerard Depardieu calls for appeasement. Yesterday, he was hanging out with Ramzam Kadyrov who killed and tortured tens of thousands of his fellow Chechens. At the time, no appeasement. He was just enjoying room and board. Disgusting, right?#IAmWokepic.twitter.com/9oprWJA4HK

The photo is from October 2012 and takes place during Ramzan Kadyrov’s birthday party. The Chechen president is sadly known for his numerous human rights violations… but had offered Gérard Depardieu a 5-room apartment, located in a skyscraper in the city of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya. This reputed head of state without faith or law would not hesitate to torture “opponents of electricity between two games of billiards, or who poses facing the camera with the corpse of the leader of the separatists at his feet. […] Women must veil themselves. ‘Lock them up’, that’s what he advises husbands” wrote the newspaper Marianne on February 22.
“Today, Gérard Depardieu calls for appeasement. Yesterday, he was out and about with Ramzan Kadyrov who killed and tortured tens of thousands of his fellow Chechens. At the time, no appeasement. He was just enjoying the board and lodging. Disgusting, isn’t it? says Jean-Michel Aphatie in the caption of the photo. If Gérard Depardieu’s proximity to this dangerous man is disturbing, we also recall that Ramzan Kadyrov is very friendly with Vladimir Poutine, to whom he has just given his support by sending 12,000 soldiers for the war.
