“This calls into question the principle of vaccination”reacts on Sunday May 15 on franceinfo Mathias Wargon, head of Smur emergencies at the Delafontaine hospital in Saint-Denis, asked about the return of caregivers not vaccinated against Covid-19.
“It’s something quite serious in public health”explains Mathias Wargon, because this decision “questions the obligation to vaccinate” caregivers, but also “beyond that, because there are 11 compulsory vaccines for children”. As for caregivers, “we are not talking about the general population, we are talking about people who have a job, which is to be a caregiver”insists the doctor: “What will we do the next time there is a wave of vaccination” and refusals? (…) Being a caregiver is homework”.
“Are we going to stop washing our hands tomorrow because we don’t believe in germs?”

Mathias Wargon recalls that “vaccination has made it possible to reduce the serious forms, and probably to reduce contagion. We must stop thinking that there are two partisans, those who prefer blue and those who prefer red: vaccination is a tool for us.”

In a column published in the newspaper The world on May 11, Mathias Wargon protested against this government decision to reinstate unvaccinated caregivers. “Will we have people who are the standard bearers of conspiracy?”asks Mathias Wargon. “How will they be able to come back to the hospital to work with doctors who have said that they have to be vaccinated? (…) to work with colleagues who they consider to be sheep?”
