It’s almost three months since NRJ removed Sébastien Cauet, due to serious accusations against the station’s star host. The fifty-year-old is in fact the target of several complaints for “sexual assault”, “rape” and “rape of a minor aged 15 and over” ; although he denies all the accusations against him, his employer nevertheless preferred to let him go, despite the audiences that his time slot was attracting, as well as the significant financial repercussions that resulted from the success of the latter. But the latest audiences revealed by Médiamétrie this Thursday, January 11, 2024 surely surprised Jean-Paul Baudecroux.
Indeed, audiences, calculated over the November-December 2023 window, are on the rise. Box 15/19, taken over by Louis, who until then was in charge of NRJ evenings, progressed over a year, with 418,000 listeners, compared to 404,000 last year. A progression that is surprising, as Sébastien Cauet’s place seemed ultra-competitive. But obviously, the host is not irreplaceable and the show which replaces him, which is simply dedicated to music with the broadcast of current hits and interviews with current artists who come to offer live performances, does slightly better.
He won’t come back until the next school year.
A signal that NRJ will inevitably analyze, given the cost of the station’s star hostand which obviously does not necessarily coincide with the audiences it achieves, and which others can also achieve: “It is still a first indicator. This means that the antenna can rotate without it, without collapsing. Now, we will have to wait a few more waves to see the real impact of its absence. It is not not impossible that there are as many listeners but that they stay less long than before” analyzes a competitor with the Parisian. Contacted by the newspaper, the management of NRJ did not wish to comment on these figures, nor even to discuss the future of Cauet. In the meantime, his withdrawal should continue for the next few months, at least until the end of the season.
