Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 on Thursday after 70 years of reign. A look back at the main events that marked his life and the United Kingdom.
The most famous monarch on the planet, Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96 at her Scottish residence in Balmoral. The queen died “peacefully”, Buckingham Palace announced. Flags were lowered above the palace and ‘God Save the Queen’ was played on the BBC.

The disappearance of the sovereign, whose state of health had deteriorated for a year, aroused immense emotion in the United Kingdom and in the world. A symbol of stability having gone through the ages and crises imperturbably, since the death of her father George VI in 1952, when she was only 25, she rubbed shoulders with Nehru, Charles de Gaulle and Nelson Mandela who called her “my friend”.
