Third link: Duhaime relaunches the idea of a bridge on the Île d’Orléans

Now that François Legault has resurrected his project for a third link between Quebec and Lévis following his defeat in Jean-Talon, Conservative leader Éric Duhaime is also returning to the charge.

At a press conference on Tuesday, he proposed a project for two bridges in the east of the region which would pass through Île d’Orléans.

Let us recall that the CAQ leader had mainly attributed his scathing defeat in Jean-Talon’s complement to the abandonment last April of his commitment to achieve the third link.

Even if the parties opposed to the third link collected the vast majority of votes in this complementary, Mr. Duhaime sees in this result a disavowal of Mr. Legault and believes that the Quebec region is overwhelmingly for the third link.

The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) wanted to build a tunnel between the two banks until Minister Geneviève Guilbault announced the abandonment of the project in April, arguing that traffic had decreased since the pandemic.

Mr. Duhaime favors a bridge since it would cost half as much, according to him. However, the Conservative leader did not comment on the cost of his option or on ridership data.
