Thierry Jigourel, comic book scriptwriter born in Lorient and specialist in the history of Brittany

Author, journalist and scriptwriter of comics Thierry Jigourel is a specialist in Brittany and Celtic material born in Lorient. After having written on the Druids (a series in 6 volumes in comics until 2013 with the designer Jean-Luc Istin and a book “The Druids, Modernity of a millennial tradition” at Coop Breizh), on Anne de Bretagne, on Breton music, or on historical figures of the region, he has just published the 8th volume of “Breizh, Histoire de la Bretagne”, a comic strip which this time addresses the French revolution seen from Brittany.

It was released on October 14, 2022 “Illustrated Encyclopedia of Marvelous Beings of Brittany” by Ouest France editions where through 63 entries it evokes the figures of Ankou, the fairy Viviane, Merlin, Arthur but also the fantastic creatures that are the korrigans, dragons, washerwomen of the night, and Morganes with illustrations of the most beautiful feathers of Brittany Xavier de Langlais, Yan’ Dargent, Pierre Péron or Toulhoat.

Thierry Jigourel is also preparing “Vitré en BD”, a docu-BD fiction which will be released on November 2, 2022 on the Bretillian city of the Neolithic era, during the visit of Anne de Bretagne. In January 2023, he will publish “Colonel Armand, from Washington to the Chouan army”, on this wealthy Breton romantic figure Armand Tuffin de la Rouërie, who in 1777 engaged in the war of independence of the United States against the English troops, became close to Washington and returned to Brittany to defend republican ideas, the excesses of which he would then combat.
