This Saturday, December 16, 2023, for the thirteenth consecutive year, Thierry Baumann will co-present the Miss France ceremony, alongside Jean-Pierre Foucault and Cindy Fabre. Since 2011, the host and actor has had the annual mission of opening and closing the votes for the Misses, by announcing the numbers of each of them, several times in the show. But the fifty-year-old, in an interview with Le Parisien, reveals that he is tired of being constantly confined to the role of “loyal gentleman” of the Misses, as well as that of chocolatier in the Lindt ad: “Please tell the readers of Le Parisien that I am not just a Lindt chocolatier and the man of Miss France. This image is only part of my professional aspirations. My life project is is the music” railed the professional, who made a point of recalling the challenges of the role alleged to him every year, and which is much more complex than it seems.
“My role is very serious, there are precise specifications. The voting instructions can be tedious, but I am here to integrate them into an overall show. And this year, it’s easier, because there is a common number for mainland France and the French Overseas Territories. I have to pick up each family on their sofa in front of the TV, so that everyone feels involved” explained the one who, between 2005 and 2010, co-presented the Euromillions draws with Sophie Favier before they were transferred to the public service. Also in 2016, he was seen in the episode Gabrielle’s secret of Joséphine, guardian angelplaying Brigitte Fossey’s son.
“This show is a TGV that cannot be stopped”
Despite his annoyance at being confined to an annual role which is nothing but dust in his professional schedule, Thierry Baumann assures that he takes the same pleasure every year in setting the tone for viewers: “This fantastic show is a launched TGV that you can’t stop, that’s what makes the program so special. Even if it’s super precise. The hive of makeup artists and stylists is what thrills me. And I arrive in a moment of suspense where the adrenaline with the live broadcast turns into pleasure, when we have to vote to elect the winner”. This Saturday, December 16, 2023, Sylvie Tellier, Nolwenn Leroy, Stéfi Celma and Nina Métayer will have the difficult task, alongside 7 million viewers, of electing the one who will succeed Indira Ampiot, Amandine Petit and Maëva Coucke and Delphine Wespiser.
