Thierry Ardisson: Big twist in his trial against C8, millions at stake

Rebound in the case between Thierry Ardisson and his former employer C8. On October 21, 2022, AFP revealed that the Court of Cassation canceled the compensation worth six million euros that the Canal + group channel was to pay to the 73-year-old presenter.

The case began in 2019 following his hasty ouster from C8, the channel on which he had presented his cult show since 2006. Hello Earthlings!renamed in 2018 Saturday Earthlings with its Sunday variation. Audrey Crespo-Mara’s husband was forced to leave due to a lack of means to produce his programs. Thierry Ardisson then sued the channel for “sudden break in economic dependence”. If justice had condemned C8 to pay him 811,500 euros, this sum was deemed insufficient for the presenter who had therefore taken the decision to appeal. And he emerged victorious since a year ago the Paris Court of Appeal ordered the Canal+ group channel to pay 3,810,476 euros to Ardis SAS, the host’s company. A sum to which was added 2,651,244 euros in compensation to the Téléparis company, of which he holds 50% of the shares, i.e. a total of 5,136,098 euros.

But AFP announced that the Court of Cassation overturned this decision. The case is therefore sent back again to the Court of Appeal. It will be responsible for assessing the amounts of compensation. It should be noted that the judges did not question the fact that the companies of the man in black were victims of a “brutal rupture of commercial relations” on the part of C8, but only the amount of the compensation because it had been estimated on the basis of an erroneous calculation. “The responsibility of the Canal+ group in my eviction has been recognized. (…), Today, it is only a question of evaluation of the allowances”said Thierry Ardisson to AFP.

For its part, the channel of the Canal + group did not wish to speak.
