And not just its grands crus: its touch is found throughout the range, as in this simple Burgundy.

Made with 85% Gamay from Beaujolais and 15% Pinot Noir from the Côte d’Or—hence “Les Deux Terres”—it displays more of the distinguished character of the latter than the exuberance of the former.

Its fragrance is delicate, with notes of cherry, raspberry, a little rose, undergrowth. On the palate, it offers a ripe fruity structure, chewiness, lots of freshness and light but firm tannins.

A mineral impression stretches on the finish. It develops a lot with aeration, and deserves a decanter.

To be enjoyed with roast chicken, wild mushrooms, white bean stew with sun-dried tomatoes.

Thibault Liger-Belair Les Deux Terres Bourgogne Gamay 2019, $26.85, 13% (14556190) (The 2017 sold in 2021 was $29.75.)

Aging: 3 to 4 years
