A dream start for the French men’s Olympic football team. A 3-0 victory in Marseille against the United States in front of supporters won over by the atmosphere. The “Aux Armes”, the historic chant of Olympique de Marseille, often fell from the stands of the Vélodrome.
The Marseille supporters were not disoriented, like Sébastien who savored the fervor surrounding the Blues match. “Perfect, I’m really happy to have come. The atmosphere was great, everyone was supporting, the turns responded to each other… It was great, it’s Marseille!”he smiled.
Thierry Henry’s players initially disappointed against the Americans who had huge chances with two posts. But the Blues managed to make the difference in the second period with a liberating goal from Alexandre Lacazette on the hour mark, then a curling shot from Michael Olise a few minutes later made it 2-0.
The Stade Vélodrome in Marseille then went wild with the third and final goal scored by Loïc Badé. Little Enzo, 10 years old, wearing the Bleus jersey, has stars in his eyes: “It was great, France’s goals were really beautiful and I really liked it. And from the start, I was sure that France was going to win.”
Mohamed introduced him to these lesser-known players, and he doesn’t regret it: “We knew Alexandre Lacazette of course, but the rest we are discovering. They did the job tonight and we thank them, the show was perfect!” It is now up to the Blues to keep the flame alive, starting Saturday in Nice, against Guinea.
