The trial for the Nice attack in July 2016 begins on Monday. Among the victims, Annick Gosteau-Mercier and Ghislain Gosteau were present on the Promenade des Anglais that evening. Since then, they have settled in Vendée to flee their memories and try to rebuild themselves. Reportage.
“What we have seen, you cannot erase it”, blows Annick Gosteau-Mercier, sobbing. Six years later, just before the opening of the trial for the Nice attack on July 14, 2016, this Monday at the Special Assize Court in Paris. This pensioner and her husband “have not been able to sleep for several days” as the court date approaches. That “revive the memories” of this evening that they lived on the Promenade des Anglais. Since then, they have decided to leave the region to come and settle in Vendée, far from their home base and the big cities. Places they flee from now on.
They attended the fireworks on the Promenade des Anglais for the first time
Six years ago, this couple went to the first time at the July 14 fireworks with friends, and they find themselves on the Promenade des Anglais, far from imagining that a terrorist, driving a ram truck was going to attack the public and cause 86 deaths and 458 injuries. Injured in the legs during the crowd movement, Annick was one of the hundreds of victims of this attack.
