Some Christmas songs have become real hymns, which everyone sings at Christmas Eve.

Whether in French or in English, some Christmas carols have become essential, which we hum on New Year’s Eve. Songs that weren’t always as wise as they are now. In the 1950s, rock made its appearance in France, and the new idols of young people mocked traditional values, such as the image of Santa Claus. In 1966, Jacques Dutronc invented a family for him in the song Santa’s daughter.

In the 1980s, it was Renaud’s turn to send Father Christmas back to the ropes with his title Black santa claus. Among the Anglo-Saxons, it is the artist Mariah Carey who made Christmas cult, with her hymn All I want for Christmas is you. Even the rockers of the Ramones have their Christmas carol. But the classics are resisting: in 2021, Tino Rossi is still essential with his song Small Santa, released 77 years ago.
