Raphaël Glucksmann was prevented from joining the procession in Saint-Étienne, reports Tuesday May 1 France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire. The head of the PS-Place publique list in the European elections was attacked by a group of demonstrators. “Glucksmann get out of it, Sainté is not yours“, chanted OSE-CGT students in particular. Eggs filled with paint were thrown at the MEP, reports the France Bleu journalist on site.
Raphaël Glucksmann and several people next to him had paint stains on their coats. He therefore gave up participating in the May 1 parade. Young people presenting themselves as communists to the Radio France journalist assume they have taken the candidate to task. “Glucksmann is everything we reject“, “a Macron bis, an ultraliberal aligned with the Renaissance party in the European Parliament”“he has hawkish positions at the international level“, they declared in particular.
The Insoumis “have chosen their opponent”
“The dynamic that we carry on the left frustrates the proponents of violence“, accuses Raphaël Glucksmann on franceinfo. “These people impress no one and have no monopoly on any struggle“, he adds. “This is their conception of democratic debate. It’s not ours“, regrets the candidate at the microphone of France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire. “We are fighting democrats, democrats through and through. We exclude a priori any physical and verbal violence from the political confrontation that sustains democracy. They decided to run a campaign that electrified everyone“, he added.
Raphaël Glucksmann targets La France insoumise: “While we have an extreme right at 40%, 80% of their tweets are devoted to Raphaël Glucksmann and the Socialist-Public Square list“. The MEP believes that the rebels “have chosen their opponent“. His, “it’s Jordan Bardella and the rise of the far right“.
On X, Jean-Luc Mélenchon says “totally disapprove“this action, which provides a”media diversion.
The European candidate, however, accuses the rebellious leader of leading to a “extremization of the debate”. “These activists are part of the noise and fury theorized by the great leader of rebellious France“, he concludes.
Raphaël Glucksmann also denounces violence which has not “nothing to do in a democratic society“and assures that he wants to continue to demonstrate that we can be”attached to the European construction which they reject and to the framework of liberal democracy which they fight“.
