Every day, Camille Dahan, Nacer Boubekeur and Marianne Théoleyre offer young people aged 12 to 18 an overview of current events.

“What’s the news?” followed Amber and Akram, 14, as they prepare for a national improvisational theatre competition. Their goal: to overcome their shyness to perform in front of 300 people at the Trophée d’Impro Culture & Diversité, a competition that brings together 84 middle school students from all over France at the Palais de Chaillot (Paris).

Last training before the big day at Jean Jaurès College (Clichy). The class begins with a warm-up that helps the young improvisers let go. Today’s exercise: “You are spectators at Roland-Garros”. Sergio Gomez, an improvisational theater teacher, watches his students follow an imaginary ball with their eyes.

“There are little moments of magic in improv, that’s what’s great. When they do an improv where everything works, they come out of it with sparkles in their eyes.”he explains. A week before the competition, Amber and Akram are following the course attentively, without letting themselves be overwhelmed by stress. “Training is also about having fun, letting off steam after a long day at school.”Akram admits.

Teenagers get caught up in the game. “I am shy and theatre helps me to express myself, speak louder and not be ashamed”explains Maïssa. “I would advise my friends to do theater because it can create bonds with other friends they don’t know”adds one of his comrades
