A new study on the list of the most pleasant cities reveals that the West facade is attracting more and more French people. Some lessons and some figures.
Medium-sized towns confirm their success. In the 2023 list of cities where life is good, Angers (Maine-et-Loire) ranks first, followed by Bayonne and Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). The western facade of the country is acclaimed. If they had the choice, 48% of French people would prefer to live in a medium-sized city. This is even more true among young people, at 51%. They appreciate their quality of life, their safety and their access to health services as well as the protection of the environment, a new criterion in 2023.
The medium-sized cities best able to adapt to climate change
For 33% of French people surveyed, medium-sized towns are the most able to adapt to climate change, compared to only 18% for large towns. Medium-sized cities are more attractive since the development of telework. The French no longer hesitate to leave the metropolises, attracted by larger housing, at lower cost and in dynamic employment areas.
