“These tragedies will continue, we cannot stay like this, we must act”, reacted Saturday October 5 on franceinfo Yann Manzi, the co-founder of the migrant aid association Utopia 56, after the death of four migrants, including a two-year-old child, on the night of Friday to Saturday October 5 at course of two new dramas in the Channel.

“What is happening is simply inhumane,” according to the humanitarian. “We must open safe roads to save lives. We must open ferries. We must ask for a parliamentary commission of inquiry to stop these tragedies.”

“Of course we have to tackle the smugglers,” he continued. “But we must also imagine that as long as we do not have safe roads for these refugees fleeing the war, this will continue”. “How is it that we do not have the possibility of giving asylum, in France, to all these people?” asks Yann Manzi. “It’s a fantasy to say that we are invaded in France.”

“As long as we continue to believe that all the misery in the world happens in France or in Europe, we will not be able to build anything,” added the co-founder of Utopia56. “We can obviously divide these populations. For example, the world welcomed six million Ukrainians without blinking an eye and everything went well.”
