Thierry, the chicken farmer of 2007
After meeting Stéphanie during season 2, Thierry, the chicken breeder in Sarthe had broken up a year later before meeting… another Stéphanie. A woman who knew how to satisfy him and with whom he wanted to marry. Father of Candice, fruit of his love with Stéphanie, the farmer was also father of two other children, Romain and Océane. Thierry died at the age of 39 from cancer in 2013.
Jean-Pierre Guelvout, the candidate for season 5
Viewers met him in 2010. Date on which Karine Le Marchand presented Jean-Pierre Guelvout, the dairy cow breeder, poultry farmer and cereal grower who had invited Nadège and Christelle to his home. Unfortunately, at the end of the season, he did not want to continue the “adventure” with one of them. Six years later, the former candidate for the M6 program killed himself by taking his brother’s gun to shoot himself in the heart.
His sister Marie said that her brother’s financial problems led him to take his own life. “On Tuesday evening, the day before his death, I stayed on the phone with him for a long time. We discussed the future, his plans… Nothing suggested what happened. […] Around noon, he shot himself in the heart. It was André, his older brother who found him around 6:30 p.m. He had left a note: ‘Today, despair is greater than hope… the cows killed me.’“, Marie declared to Telestar.
The Belgian version, also in mourning
The French version is not the only one concerned by the sad deaths. Indeed, our Belgian neighbors also learned terrible news this year. Gregory Cossé, emblematic candidate of Love is in the meadow Belgian version broadcast in 2021, died at the age of 48 when he was “no health problems” as his mother confided to our colleagues at Sud Info.
She also assured that her son “was very stressed since his participation in the show since it did not go well with the lady“. “He was someone who was passionate about his job, who had the joy of living. He loved going out, he loved people. He was a very sociable person with whom everyone got along well.”, she continued. Gregory Cossé had lived a story with Rosanna for a few months before their romance ended.
A candidate for season 6 kills himself
In 2022, viewers of Love is in the meadow learned that Jean-Claude Joly took his own life. Leading candidate of season 6, the farmer was indeed found hanged in the stable of his farm in La Frenaye. According to our colleagues at Courrier Cauchoishe would have killed himself on the night of Friday June 24 to Saturday June 25, 2022.
Jean-Claude, died after being crushed by his tractor
A tragic disappearance took place in 2023. On June 16, our colleagues from Free Midday announced the disappearance of Didier Berton. Candidate of Love is in the meadow in 2011. According to the daily, the farmer’s tractor tipped over while he was tinkering. Exposure occurred and neighbors called for help. According to France 3 Occitanie, Didier’s machine would have rolled down a slope before crushing the latter and subsequently explode. The explosion would have seriously burned the candidate of the 2011 season.
During his participation, he invited his suitors to attend a rugby match, his passion. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to charm them. Didier Berton left alone after his participation in the programM6but gained many friends and in particular the cow breeder Jean-Michel, who confided to Here that he considered Didier as “a brother”.
