“It’s a bit confusing, but suddenly you feel like you’re out of place.” For fourteen years, Marc, 56, crossed the border to work in Fribourg. He trained engineers all over the world on the installation and management of automatic climate control. But last year he decided to completely change course. “
Passionate about psychology, he trained for a year remotely and has now opened a practice in his village in Haut-Rhin. “I was very afraid of the decision, but once I was in my therapist shoes, another life opened up. I was much freer”he summarizes after taking the plunge.
520,000 people resign every quarter in France
Cases like Marc, France and the world know more and more. The long weeks of confinement have allowed so many reflections and encouraged those who were wondering to get started. But the main reason for this wave of resignations is the economic conditions. Many companies need arms, which changes mentalities according to Patrick Wespiser, director of the independent interim agency Gézim and the Skayl recruitment firm in Alsace.
“We are on a movement of funds. Today, we want to be good in our work and to be well managed, Before, when you weren’t valued in your work, you accepted more easily. But there are more offers than requests, so when you disagree with your N+1, you can say shit to him and go elsewhere”.
According to figures from the DARES published in August (Direction for the Animation of Research, Studies and Statistics), since 2021, 520,000 people have resigned every quarter. the resignation rate reached 2.7% in the first quarter of 2022. Figures more seen since the first quarter of 2008, before the economic crisis.
You don’t quit to stay home
Among the recent resigners, there is Baptiste, a bartender in Strasbourg. “I worked in a gym that was a restaurant, so it was a lot of orange juice and coffees. It lacked a bit of activity for me” he summarizes. He therefore did not insist and as the hotel and restaurant sector is looking for people, he knows he will quickly find. “I have a choice, I don’t worry. As we are not very well paid in the sector, I will wait to find a bar with activity to get more tips. I will also look for in Switzerland, for the same job we are paid three times more, and in the current context we have to adapt”he continues.
“Today, employees with a small specialization are in high demand.analyzes Patrick Wespiser. Butchers, pastry chefs in supermarkets, can resign from their establishment to earn two hundred, three hundred, or even five hundred euros more in a nearby supermarket. You can be stuffed in the supermarket and still earn a very good living”.
Salary and better working conditions: these are the reasons that lead the majority of employees to resign according to Patrick Wespiser. He refutes the idea that these employees would leave their jobs only to receive unemployment. “When you leave your job, it’s not to stay at home! Some, yes, resign without having yet another job behind. It exists. But they almost all find work in the weeks that follow.”
