Being focused on the end of the presidential campaign does not prevent thinking about the aftermath. Three days before the first round, Anne Hidalgo does not hide it, Thursday April 7, during a trip to the agglomeration of Rouen. It is in this Norman city that the socialist had formalized her candidacy, almost seven months ago: “It is my responsibility to bring everyone back to common work because there will be no individual fates.”

“There will only be peaceful collective work in which we can project ourselves. First, a first stage is that of the legislative elections.”

Negotiations are already underway with the Greens and the Communists, assures Patrick Kanner, the boss of the Socialist senators, fervent support of the candidate. The mayor of Paris thus believes that after the legislative elections will come the time for reconstruction. And it’s true, the PS is not in its best shape, recognizes Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, socialist mayor of Rouen (Seine-Maritime): “Of course not, he’s not well. I’m not going to tell you jokes. But you know, as long as there are injustices, there will be socialists. The structures, they evolve, the people change” .

On this point, Patrick Kanner advances cautiously. “There is no question of making a clean sweep of the past. We are not there yet”, he said. The time to put things straight will come sooner or later. A congress must thus be held within six months following the presidential and legislative elections: it is moreover written black on white in the statutes of the party.
