The day after the announcement of Rachida Dati as a candidate for mayor of Paris during the next municipal elections, and even though she has just been appointed Minister of Culture a few days earlier, for the president of the Renaissance group at National Assembly, who is also president of the Renaissance Federation of Paris, Sylvain Maillard, guest Thursday January 18 of franceinfo, Rachida Dati is in no way for the moment the candidate of the majority: “We will decide at the beginning of 2025.”
“I have set a rule which is very simple and very clear : for two years, we worked on a project for Paris. I have 3 000 activists. It is the most important political group in Paris.”explains Sylvain Maillard, questioned about a de facto inauguration of Rachida Dati for the presidential party during the next municipal elections. “There will be a choice of activists at the beginning of 2025, with a vote by Renaissance activists, Horizons activists, MoDem, to be able to designate our head of list.”
For the president of the Renaissance Federation of Paris, returning is out of the question “in the race of the little horses” which would consist of discussing “if it is Pierre, Paul, Jacques, Rachida who will be our candidate. We will decide at the beginning of 2025, one year before the elections, who will be our candidate”.
Can she, freshly excluded from LR, be a candidate without being part of the presidential majority? “Any candidate who is in the presidential majority has a vocation to be able to present themselves to be our candidate for mayor”answers Sylvain Maillard.
