Guest of France 2, Saturday morning, Rima Abdul Malak reacted to the announcement of TF1 and M6 to abandon their merger project.
The marriage will ultimately not take place: TF1 and M6 announced Friday, September 16 the abandonment of their merger project. The two groups consider that this project did not present “no more industrial logic”, a twist after months of uncertainty. On Saturday September 17, Rima Abdul Malak spoke about this abandonment, considering that “the Minister of Culture did not have to get involved in this merger project”.
“Being strong against American platforms”
“There were, with regard to the rules of competition, too many complications for them to continue this project”continued the minister, guest of the “Four Guests” on France 2. “The real subject is to be strong against American platforms which are gaining momentum.” Rima Abdul Malak also wanted to be cautious about developments in the audiovisual media sector: “Let’s wait and see how they (TF1 and M6) will reposition themselves.”
