While 250 people marched Monday, May 6 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), to express their anger after the femicide which cost the life of a 33-year-old woman on Friday, the Bayonne prosecutor assured France Blue Basque Country Tuesday May 7, that there is no “failed” in the follow-up of his former companion, currently indicted for assassination.

The justice system and the police were certainly alerted to the situation of this couple on two occasions, recalls the magistrate, referring to the custody of the victim’s former companion last April for attempted homicide. But the procedure and the transmission of information worked correctly: “All investigative actions had been carried out […] Forensic findings had been carried out and witnesses had been interviewed. There was no trace of struggle, no trace of violence.”indicates Jérôme Bourrier, who nevertheless says he understands the indignation of feminist associations.

“Above all, this woman had expressly exonerated her companion”he continues, recalling the difficulty in thwarting the phenomena of control specific to situations of domestic violence. “Justice alone will not succeed in eradicating domestic violence. It is linked to several phenomena”he concludes.
