200 baby products were scrutinized by a consumer association, the CLCV. The result is clear: too much sugar, too many additives.

Puree or compote in small pots: for more than half a century, almost all babies have already tasted it. But the composition of these products for toddlers sometimes reserves surprises: foods that are too sweet or contain additives and artificial flavors. “In reality, these are products that are very sweet and should be consumed in small quantities”indicates Lisa Faulet, head of the investigation into industrial infant products.

WHO recommends stricter measures

The CLCV denounces regulations that are too permissive. The World Health Organization (WHO) itself recommends stricter measures for infant food products, as for example the ban on adding sugar to recipes or even the banishment of sweets or sugary drinks. “Today, the regulations in force, which are European regulations, do not go far enough at all”believes Lisa Faulet.
